PHOTOGROUP

A Photogroup Designed To Inspire You

We are a group of amateur and professional photographers seeking to hone our photography skills by getting out there, taking pictures and learning from each other.
Weekly assignments are due each Sunday.
You may submit up to 3 photos per assignment, and they will be posted as they come in.
Please feel free to comment on submissions with your friendly critiques and suggestions.

Because we are attempting to continuously improve our photography skills, this is not a site to post our archive photos: wedding pictures, your vacation travelogues or childhood gems; so resist the temptation.

This group is by invitation only.

CURRENT ASSIGNMENT - GRAND
Express grandeur in a creative or unique way. (Due 07-22-12)

About the Photographers

Val Barkley - As a young girl I enjoyed taking photographs, whether a shy squirrel, wild flower, a bright hued bird, or the majesty of a waterfall.  These days, as a wife and mother, I often find inspiration in the faces of my husband, children, and beloved pets.  Out and about with my camera I look for eye-catching color and contrast, the unusual, the whimsical, the natural, and the spectacular.  If I had a sign to post on my back window it would read something like this, "Camera on board!  Vehicle will make frequent detours and unexpected stops!"

Wil Cook - I've enjoyed collecting photographs as long as I can remember.  I especially like collecting photos of family members, both past and present, and over the years I’ve collected a good number of them.  I always thought it would be wonderful to be a portrait photographer.  Pictures of people are so special and the people in the pictures are very important to someone presently or in the future.  I often find myself looking at pictures of people in second-hand stores, people that I don’t even know, and wondering what their lives must have been like and how special the photograph must have been to someone.  The faces, expressions and body language captured in the photograph say so much about that moment in time and what stresses or joys that the person must have been experiencing.  As I mature and grow in wisdom I look back at the pictures of my family and see in their expressions, and the wear and tare of life many things that I am currently experiencing.  If we but look at our baby pictures we will see ourselves in our advanced years, hairless, toothless, but with wrinkles of wisdom added.

Craig Philpott - My Dad gets much of the credit for my interest in photography. He took many pictures of birds and wildlife in the desert of Utah and New Mexico when I was young and the bug was passed on to me when I purchased my first Pentax 35mm film camera in 1978. My very first pictures were of poisonous mushrooms in the forests Mendocino County, California. The digital revolution in photography has reinvigorated my interest in shooting meaningful pictures and I continue to be interested in landscapes, natural places and also the photography of historical bridges.

Linda L. Philpott started taking pictures at the age of 11 when she was given her first little instamatic and has been capturing the world with a camera ever since.  Linda studied photography and advertising design in college, and has continued her education through summer courses and occasional college classes. Linda enjoys photographing textures in natural elements such as stone, tree bark and clouds, as well as capturing the intricate shapes, and fascinating colors to be found in flowers.  She strives to catch that amazing shot of cats and birds, two subjects that aren't very cooperative.  There is always more to learn, and Linda appreciates any constructive feedback about her photography that can be given.
